Inverse Definite Minimum Time (IDMT) relays are protective relays that operate with an inverse time characteristic. The operating time decreases as the fault current increases.
Key Formulas
1. Over Load Current (In):
In = Feeder Load Current × Relay Setting (%)
Example: 384A × 125% = 480A
2. Required Plug Setting:
Plug Setting = Over Load Current / CT Primary Current
Example: 480A / 600A = 0.8
4. Operating Time Formulas:
• Normal Inverse: t = 0.14 / (PSM⁰·⁰² - 1)
• Very Inverse: t = 13.5 / (PSM - 1)
• Extreme Inverse: t = 80 / (PSM² - 1)
• Long Time Inverse: t = 120 / (PSM - 1)
